Ok I am a super noob but I have a few questions. I have my server up and running. I used the new MaNGOS 6245 (UDB + PSDB), ScriptDev2 r474 I used the UDB for the install.
I have a few questions that I hope might be answered.
    1) How can I increase the amount of greens/blues/purples that drop from mobs? Is there anyway to increase only the special item rate?
    2) Some quest items don't respawn. Like things to be collect may or may not respawn - I have had to reset the server or log on with a GM and divy out items. Can that be fixed?
3)MOBs have multiple spawns/copies so what you think is one may be 3 - 4.
    4) Getting mounts before 40.
Can anyone lend me any assistance?

ok i hope i can help you out. lol
    1. the only thing you can do is increase the total drop rate. its in mangosd.conf file, just scroll down till you see rate.drop. or something along those lines.
    2. im not sure if i understood that or not, but what i think you said can't be fixed untill Scriptdev2 fixes stuff like that. they are the ones responsible for all the scripting in quests and instances and everything.
    3. im not really sure, you can just delete the ones you think aren't supposed to be there, just target the one u want to get rid of and type .npc del
    4. thats going to be out in the new expansion wrath of the lich king. you can have mounts at level 30 or something. but u can not change that in the game.

@ avelmaris -- very good, thanks for the help !! right on all but 2. You can change the way things drop from individual creatures and their respective respawn times. Some of the "mobs" in the world have been hastily thrown out there to populate the world, alot of tweaking will be required if you want anything near retail, but this is the cool thing that retail will never be, and that is your own world. :-)

    About that 4th...

Actually, you can get mounts whenever you want.

Now, I haven't been into WoW since mangos 5116, but I clearly recall that I (as warlock) had my mighty Dreadsteed since level 10.
I don't remember exactly how I did it, but my guess is through spells for mounts. Look for spell IDs and search 'mount' as a key word (or any specific name of a mount, like: felsteed, dreadsteed, various types of kodos, horses, tigers etc.). You can search that ingame, something like: .lookup spell felsteed (but you should check for correct syntax for that command for current revision of mangos). You'll get many spell IDs with corresponding names as answer. Pick the spell with word 'learn' or something like that near the name of the spell, and then use command like: .learn spell_ID, then activate that spell to learn new one for summoning your mount.
And, ofcourse, you must be a GM for all this to work.

That should do the trick, but I warn you again, it was long ago and I might be talking nonsense.

well first you will want to create the npc if it isnt there.
    go to http://wow-v.com/
register with them, then click create a vendor, the last one on the right.
Then to add the items you want to him, just click on him in game
and type in the comamnd .npc additem #itemId
So you will have to know the item id.

Thank-you BmmB, I totally forgot the ability as GM to teach anyone anything.

@ Demokritos -- make sure.. and it may sound silly... MAKE SURE you have the latest video drivers installed on the machine you play wow with. My video card drivers caused a crash in retail WoW that left my body over 500 feet in the air, and Blizzard help telling me they wouldn't do anything about it, so I ate a 15g repair for not remembering to make sure my video drivers were up to date.

AND make sure in the WoW video settings that your refresh rate matches that of your windows desktop.

(guys I have already burnt out one monitor due to having video card set to pump out signal at 60hz to monitor, and in WoW its set to 75hz. Not that my monitor couldn't handle the two different rates, just not at the same time - switching between desktop and WoW)

Just a note that setting the montior to 75hz significantly drops the frame rate, it's really a matter of taste but it drops my frame rate as low as 25fps in XP (probably worse in Vista). That's about 1/6th of my usual & i'm running a 9800 GX2 as well (with all settings to max). I'd say the GPU processing power could be better used on Specular Lighting/AA (Multisampling)/World Detail. Especially given that frame rates much above 60fps (60hz) are pretty much undetecable to the human eye anyway. I suppose that it depends on your setup, but on my system with WoW 75hz lowers the visual quality.

Hi everyone! I got my own private server up and running fine, well since i'm totally noob to this PServer thing can anyone give a head-up or a simple crash course in how to running it (maintaining it), well the number of players would not exceed 5 since we just starting it all... I'm introducing my friends to the WOW experience and I want them to appreciate and enjoy it = ) as much as I did during my Trek in Ashenvale (Yep my 1st. char was a N.elf Hunter = ) and They all wanna try it too (they got curious about it - they keep saying my kid is playing it how come it so addictive and all...), well to be honest I'm just playing all by myself for now. How did you set you P. Servers?? (e.i: how much drop rate, xp rate, money drop, etc.)

You may also use a program like heidisql to modify your database to allow mounts at any level any skill.
(and just about everything in the game)
    GM not required.
I have tried both mangos and acweb repack now... they both have strengths and weaknesses. To get a server how you want it you better be prepared to learn DBs and programming.

exactly WoWNoob... and yeah there are many SQL managers that allow you to directly edit the databases that MaNGOS runs on. doesn't metter which one you use, but you'll need one.
