After reading a bit about ascent I think it should be possible, but im not sure; Im not familiar with ascent, Its possible the data is saved in another format in SQL. What you could try is backing up all your datafiles in a SQL file and import them in your mangos database. Perhaps even easier, for testing, download mangos (the AF one) and edit the .conf files so they point towards your ascend database. If you then can log in and play its fine. Then proceed with the backup and total switch :p so, to wrap things up:
    1. Download the AF mangos repack from around here.
    2. Dont do anything with your database so far.
    3. Point your mangos.conf and your realmd.conf to the databases you use in ascent. Dont forget to set up your datadir.
    4. try to run mangos (and realmd) and try to log in. Make sure its not your ascent server youre logging in to.

    Now there are 3 options:
    1) it all works; proceed to 5.
    2) it doesnt work; be sad, its probably VERY hard to convert it to mangos.
    3) Mangos produces an error not related to your database. Fix it and return to 4.

    5. Your ascent database seems to be compatible with mangos :D Go ahead and extract it all to .sql files.
    6. Open the AF bat file; hit the full install button. When its done, apply the AF fix.
    7. Import your ascent world database to the database mangos
    8. Import your ascent characters database to the database characters
    9. configure the database realmd, table realmlist for your DNS/IP
    10. Configure your mangos.conf, realmd.conf and scriptdev2.conf

I think this could work. When mangos produces an error you cant fix, try returning here ;)

Well, it's not that easy Pitje. Ascent and Mangos databases aren't compatible (have different structures). They are not too different, but still, you need to do some research. Conversion Ascent DB from/to Mangos DB was an issue before, but now, I don't know 'cause I haven't checked recently.
Altough, there was a tool that worked with 3.5 stable ascent and 5254-mangos; it converts only characters; here it is:

    http://filebeam.com/eaad6340240d3e8d940ef6269e1fed8e

But... mangos changes DB structure very often (and ascent maybe too), so this converter will not work for newer versions of either one. I mean, it will do conversion, but you'll need to change some stuff manually. Also, the tool is written in php, so you'll need a server (like Apache) with php support to run it. For that I recommned downloading XAMPP package (which includes Apache, php and MySQL all in one and all set and connected), google for it.
Still, the best option you have is to check with database developers (like project silvermoon and UDB) 'cause they provide databases for both servers, and if there is something like a working up to date conversion tool, then those people have it.
Also, if there is one, there is a problem if its up to date, assuming DBs structure changing rate is high.
I'm insisting on tool here 'cause converting DB manually for so many people is a job of many many hours, I guess.
Anyway, good luck with it, but I recommend starting from scratch.

I just remembered that there was Mangos to Ascent character convertor some time ago. Try to find it and then try to remake it to do the inverse thing, if it can be done. Still, it should provide some insight into the problem.

Hey, thinking further on this, I got an idea.

If you're really eager to convert those players' characters, you can do this:
Reaper-X mangos repack has an option to backup you characters database, so you can restore in the next repack, so you should just use characters database from your ascent version 3.5 with mangos 5254 (through ascent to mangos character converter mentioned earlier), then just through this repack convert that characters database from earlier to newer versions until you get to the newest.

Thank you, you're really kind (as always), but I don't think I'm that good. Just popping out what comes to my mind at that moment :-D
