    Hi there,

    I'm trying to find a walkthrough to set up a WoW private server. My husband is currently in Iraq with no internet and has asked me to see if I could set it up on a laptop and send it to him. Unfortunately, every time I get partially into a walkthrough, I install two or three programs and then I get some error, or a broken link to the next program, or no one is on the forum anymore if there's a question. So, I've downloaded a ton or stuff. I think I have two realmlist files and am not sure which one to use. I don't even know anymore what programs I need to make it work. Can someone please help me or point me in a better direction?

    Thank you so much!

    This might be slightly outdated, but it should be enough to set up a working server. :)

    If you want to configure your server to connect to use your external dns address without Reaper-X Mangos exe, then just go to your realmd database --> realmlist table and change the address (default 127.0.0.1) to your dns address.

    Well, I guess part of the problem now is that I don't know the intricacies are in terms of what should be in certain files. I was hoping to find something that would take me from like ground zero, i.e., what version of WoW I need to have and how to find out what version I do have; if I need to have the WoW file named something in particular and do I need to have it somewhere in particular; should I just delete everything and start completely over?

    Thank you for the link, but I don't see on there where it tells me exactly how to arrange things and what to download to get everything to work. The link is way beyond where I am at this point.

    I could have everything that I need downloaded at this point but just don't know it because I don't know how to fix what's wrong.

    Thank you again.

    I think I know what you're asking for, but I don't know if there a way that you can install a server onto your computer, then send it off to your husband's computer.

    First of all, I don't know of a portable WoW emulator, so your husband will have to install mysql and the repack onto his computer.

    I wouldn't recommend the latest repack for v3.1.3, since there are many issues with the mobs (if you want to find out what version of WoW you currently have, just open the WoW Launcher and read the title of the window).

    Use this repack for now (this is for WoW version 3.0.9): http://www.reaper-x.com/2009/05/27/darkened-linux-trinity-core-repack-wow-309-v2/

    Also, use this if you're not sure how to install the repack: http://www.reaper-x.com/2009/01/01/reaper-trinity-core-installation-guide/

    You can save these links as a complete webpage, so he can read the webpages offline. Then send it off with mysql (maybe a mysql manager could help aswell) and the repack.

    From there, he should be able to do everything himself.

    thank you for the reply! I really appreciate the help!

    Okay, so I have 3.0.9 right now. I don't know if that's the "repack" you're talking about or not. I'm not sure what a repack is. But in either case, I downloaded it thinking that it would be what I needed to set up on my own. Once I got it downloaded, I realized that everything in my World of Warcraft file was set up for someone else's server. So, one of my next steps is to make sure to configure whatever files I need to configure to access my own database/server.

    I also have a folder called WowEmu. I don't know what that's for or what to do with it.

    I also have something called AC Web Ulitimate Repack which has MySQL folder with a bunch of files, Apache folder with a bunch of files, Arcemu.exe file, and arcemu-world.exe file.

    I went through this huge walkthrough and it seemed that MySQL was running but now it says that it can't find some file.

    Then I'm supposed to start apache. When I do that, I get some error about an invalid directory.

    And then the connect file I'm supposed to execute doesn't work because nothing prior to that worked.

    Any insight on that?

    Do I need to have all of these things in one folder?

    Thank you once again.

    A repack is somebody's attempt to emulate the World of Warcraft server.

    Use this repack: http://rapidshare.com/files/237640306/Reaper-x_Trinity_3.0._9__UDB_.exe

    Extract the exe.

    Then open 'Reaper-x Trinity 3.0. 9 [UDB]' folder ----> Install Database folder ----> Reaper-X Trinity [UDB].bat. From here you will be given asked questions and given instructions on how to install the database (mysql must be running while you do this).

    Once you do this, go back to the root folder ----> Trinity core folder. From here, you run both these exe's: TrinityCore.exe and TrinityRealm.exe

    Done...while both these exe files are running, the server is up. Now upgrade/downgrade your WoW client to version 3.0.9. Once you do this, go to your WoW client root folder (it's usually 'C:\program files\world of warcraft' or something along those lines). Once you're there, go to Data-->enUS-->realmlist.wtf. Open the file with a Text Editor (Notepad is fine), and replace everything with this one line:

    set realmlist 127.0.0.1

    Whenever you want to run the server, you open the TrinityCore.exe and the TrinityRealm.exe.

    Now, to create an account on your server, you wait until TrinityCore.exe has fully loaded and then type 'account create (your username) (your password)'.

    Now type 'account set gmlevel (your username) 3'. This will give your account GameMaster rights.

    Next, you type 'account set addon (your username) 2'. This will give upgrade your account to work with both the Burning Crusade, and the Wrath of the Lich King expansions.

    Once you do this, you leave those two .exe's running and open World of Warcraft, login with the account you just made. Should connect smoothly.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you for the instructions there. So, I got rid of pretty much everything, I now have ensured that I have WoW 3.0.9. I redownloaded MySQL and know for sure that it now works.

    Then I downloaded the pack you posted. I got to the part in the installation where it's asking me for the World/Trinity Database Name. I don't have a clue what I'm supposed to put there.

    Any ideas?

    Also, just put whatever was in the quotes next to the questions. I'm not sure, however, what the "username" is of mysql... and I think I got an error. Once I got to the end of the installation (number 1 in the dos command thing), it said: 'mysql' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

    And it said that four times. Then it said Done installing databases. Then press any key to continue. I don't know if it actually installed anything or not....

    Okay, well I figured out what I needed to do with the databases, I think...

    When I "run" mysql, what exactly does that mean? I opened up a command prompt, typed in:
    mysql -u root -p

    and now I have the prompt: mysql>

    Does that mean that mysql is running?

    My next step is to open Trinitycore and Trinityrealm. When I go to do that, though, something flashes, like a window trying to open, but nothing actually stays open, and it's so fast that I can't even tell what's trying to open or what it says. So, now I guess I'm stuck again. Any ideas please?

    I posted the question on the trinity forum but someone sais that repacks aren't supported there or something to that effect and they wouldn't seem to help me so... <shrug>

    If you installed mysql, it should always be running in the background as a service. If you're not sure, go to Start Menu ---> Run ---> type services.msc. Look for mysql and see if it's status is Started.

    If you successfully ran Reaper-X Trinity [UDB].bat and installed the databases, there shouldn't be any issues with opening TrinityCore and TrinityRealm.

    Your username for mysql is root.

    Name these databases accordingly:

    World/Trinity Database: world

    Realm Database: realmd

    Characters Database: characters

    Thank you once again for the help with this!

    Okay. I did that.

    Right now, I have TrinityCore (the whole folder) in a folder called temp. Not sure that that matters, but do I need to have it in a particular place for pathing?

    Anyway, then when I went to open TrinityCore and TrinityRealm, a window flashes up superquick and shuts, but it seems like it says it cannot connect to the mysql something or other. It's so fast, it's virtually impossible to read.

    I have verified that MySQL is running by seeing it in the services sections. It says started next to it.

    Any ideas?

    Ok go to the folder where you find Trinitycore.exe and TrinityRealm.exe, and open Trinitycore.conf with any Text Editor.

    Try to find something similar to this in the file:

    RealmID = 1
    DataDir = "."
    LogsDir = ""
    LoginDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;root;yourmysqlpassword;realmd"
    WorldDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;Trinity;yourmysqlpassword;world"
    CharacterDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;root;"yourmysqlpassword";characters"
    MaxPingTime = 30
    WorldServerPort = 8085
    BindIP = "0.0.0.0"

    If yours doesn't look like this, make it so that it does.

    Then go to TrinityRealm.conf and do the same thing with this line:

    LoginDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;root;yourmysqlpassword;realmd"

    Thank you for the response once again. I really appreciate your patience!

    Okay, so I made the changes exactly as you had it in the post.

    I had a question about these lines though:
    WorldDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;Trinity;yourmysqlpassword;world"
    CharacterDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;root;"yourmysqlpassword";characters"

    Is worlddatabase supposed to say Trinity? I tried it with Trinity and with root
    And characterdatabase, is the password supposed to be in quotes? I tried it with and without.

    I still can't seem to get trinitycore to work.
    Trinityrealm on the other hand seems to come up.

    It has the library number
    server version number
    Added realm reaper x
    priority process set to high.

    Does that mean it's working?

    Next, what do you think the issue could be with trinitycore?

    Thanks again.

    Yep your TrinityRealm seems to be working fine now.

    With TrinityCore, i've changed the lines you gave me to what it should be:

    WorldDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;root;yourmysqlpassword;world"
    CharacterDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;root;yourmysqlpassword;characters"

    Just change 'yourmysqlpassword' to whatever your mysql password is, with no quotes needed.

    Yeah, I'm not sure what the problem could be with the file at this point then because I had put that in and it still doesn't appear to be working. o.O

    could there be a port issue based on some setting I used in a walkthrough for the setup of MySQL?

    I confirmed that I did in fact use 3306, which completely makes sense since TrinityRealm is working with 3306. How about the 8085 number for the world server?

    Hmm nope 3306 is correct. 3306 has nothing to do with TrinityRealm or TrinityCore, but to do with the mysql database server. Default ports for TrinityCore is 8085 and for TrinityRealm is 3724.

    When you installed the database with Reaper-X Trinity [UDB].bat, did it extract DBC, Maps and VMaps from your WoW client successfully?

    These folders should be found in the same folder you find TrinityCore.exe and TrinityRealm.exe.

    Hmm... I don't see those folders in the Reaperx folder. I have my reaperx folder in a temp folder. Do I need to move everything to program files or the wow folder and try again?

    Please keep in mind I have Vista and there's that whole finicky issue with program files and Vista. Also, my wow folder isn't in program files.

    I see the vmaps, maps and dbc folders in the trinitycore folder that's in the temp file. But they're empty. What does that mean?

    Also, when I ran the udb thing, I only did numbers 1 and 3. I didn't do a custom pack or backup anything. Then I exited.

    Also, when I try to run trinitycore now, it says something different. It's a ton of stuff that comes up on the screen, but it goes off again so quick I can't really make anything out. It says at the top something about mysql library, then a bit further down there are about 4 lines in a row that start with the word world. Then I just can't seem to make anything else out. It closes too fast.

    Yeah don't bother leaving it in program files if you're using Vista.

    Move the "Reaper-x_Trinity_3.0._9__UDB_" folder from temp to C:

    The fact that you have nothing inside your DBC, Maps or VMaps, means that the installer didn't move the files into those folders.

    Go to the root of your World of Warcraft client. Try to find a folder called dbc, maps and buildings (aka vmaps).

    Move the files in dbc to the empty dbc folder in C:

    Do the same with maps and buildings.

    Now try to open TrinityCore.exe

    I moved the whole trinity folder, like you said, to C:. Then I copied all of the maps from the wow folder to the trinity maps folder. Unfortunately, a thorough scan of my comp shows nothing in terms of a dbc, vmaps or buildings folder. Well, the only ones are the empty ones in the trinity folder. What's that mean?

    I tried running Trinitycore just to see what would happen and I noticed more stuff on the screen before it closed. I couldn't make it out, but I could just see that there was more text.

    We're getting there Aekom, don't give up on me. Thank you again. I really do appreciate it. If I could hug ya, I would!

    (I made a mistake before and said that buildings was vmaps. I was wrong, so you have to move both buildings and vmaps folder.)

    Ok you're gonna have to extract these files yourself. Go to your folder in C:\ --> Extractor Folder.

    Copy ad.exe and everything inside the vmap folder to your WoW client root folder.

    Run ad.exe, and this'll extract dbc and maps. Run makevmaps_SIMPLE.bat, and this'll extract buildings and vmaps. Move these four folders to the same folder where you find TrinityCore.exe, and hopefully it'll fix this problem.

    Hope it works.

    Do I move them or just copy them? I mean, I realize you said move, but I didn't want to have them be gone if I needed to leave them there; on the other hand, I don't want to screw it up if there's a conflict because it's in two places.

    Ok, so I moved everything and they both seem to be working!!!! Woohoo!!!

    Thank you!!!

    Now to create an account.
    Into TrinityCore I typed:
    account create username password

    Of course username and password were something different, but other than that, everything else was exactly the same. It said there is no such subcommand. You have to type it fast too; otherwise, the updatetime diff/players online thing pops up (as this seems to update every about 10 seconds) and interrupts whatever you're typing.

    Any ideas?
    Thank you again!!

    We're so close, and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

    Erm, it may be a different command on your repack. Try typing help first to get a list of the commands and go from there.

    Good luck.

    EDIT: By the way, once you found a way to create an account, here's the list of commands you can use in the game:

    Woohoo!! I was able to connect!!!

    I created a char at the char select screen thing, but it didn't show up after I hit create. Am I supposed to do that in the trinitycore window somehow?

    I just wanted to add that I looked at the characters file within the TrinityCore folder (not the wow file) and it had the character listed that I just created.

    Thanks for all the help!!
