yes, you can do that.
but theres a couple things that you have to know to do it. i think it's a lot easier to just buy an actual server off of like newegg.com or tigerdirect.com and run it from your own home. the only thing with that is your internet connection will determine how much lag your server would have.
i personally don't like the ones that you rent.
they are also very expensive if you get a nice one. because you pay monthly for however long you use it.
you can get a good actual server for close to $1200 USD.Posted 1 year ago » Permalink

No.. you can use things like DynDNS http://www.dyndns.com/ basic service is free. and yeah buying/running your own server is more likely to keep you out of the sites of Blizzard Entertainment. and your internet service needs to be more than DSL speed (lol) to truely run a server.. I currently only have a turbo 10Mb/512Kb service. But Verizon Phios or something similar will allow you much more bandwidth (15Mb/15Mb).
The DynDNS service will help for those that don't spend the money to pay for a static IP address (or conversely wish to save money like me)

yes, thanks for that advice remar, im planning on getting my own $600 server for myself soon for this purpose.
i only have DSL high speed at the moment, but i dont think that it should be too big of a problem untill i get more people, lol.
yes, it would be excellent to get a good speed like that!
dyndns is a very nice place, im going to be getting a domain name off of them soon for my website, so i dont have to use the dyndns name anymore, its too long. i would rather get rid of the .servebbs.com part. lolPosted 1 year ago » Permalink

offtopic.
@ Remar
how much do you pay for your internet connection where you live?
Here in sweden where I live, I pay about 40,00 USD (250 SEK) for 100MB/100MB/s connection per month. That's pretty cheap aint it? It does make the difference in what country you live in i think.Posted 1 year ago » Permalink

@ Samories we pay like 20.00 USD Yeah your connection is my dream.. and it does matter where you live. Here in the US location is everything. In my old house we could only have dial up...BLEH I about died waiting for updates. It is a cable connection we have now. We would have to be in a new housing development for newer services. Again yes, very cheap service price for you, I envy you....lol
