Everything seemed to go smoothly until I tried to join the server with a client. I can log in, I get validated using the created account, I can see the ManGos realm listed. but when I select it I basically see the area where I choose my character and then it goes back to realm selection list.

I hope this is clear, any ideas to help?

Is your WoW version 2.4.2? If you look at patch.txt in your WoW directory it will tell you the latest version it's patched to, or alternately in the bottom left corner of the username/password screen. I had a similar issue when I first attempted to run my own server.

My issue was due to having a slightly different version of WoW than the server, had a look around last night and it appears this issue is commonly caused by the configs, is your username/password set properly in mangosd, realmd & scriptdev2.conf?

i think your problem might be with the realmlist in the realmd table in the database.
you will need a program called navicat.
    http://www.navicat.com/download.html
just scroll down and get the LITE version.
the full is just a trial.

once you get that installed i want you to open up navicat.
click the connections button at the top.
and type in the info for your server.
the connection name doesn't matter what its at. name it so you know what it is.
    hostname would be 127.0.0.1
    leave port at 3306
and put in the name and password for mysql.
that should get you connected to your mysql.
now double click on the realmd table in there, then open up the realmlist table.
you should see your realm name, u can change anything here. the name, the ip address, stuff like that.
now under address, put whatever you want here, either your ip address if u want it public, or 127.0.0.1 if you want only yourself to connect. then click the checkmark in the bottom left. and close, that should help.

I had two issues, one I did not notice that my ISP had changed my IP address... my bad. The other was that I had different settings in realmd.conf and mangosd.conf.

I really appreciate the info on navicat, very cool stuff. I am in the process of writing and IIS/ASP based user management/admin portal. that will certainly help in testing!
